Frequently Asked Questions
Each Puppy Port has been lovingly designed and built by local craftspeople and
professional building partners who share our passion for quality, tradition, and thoughtful
design.
Puppy Ports are made from sustainably sourced wood with high quality, durable, non-
toxic finishes by Vermont Natural Coatings and Benjamin Moore. VNC’s “Exterior
Penetrating Stains” are made with PolyWhey®, a byproduct of the cheese-making
process. VNC products have ultra-low VOC levels and are free from carcinogens,
mutagens and reprotoxins. These safe, healthy finishes provide UV protection, sealer
and are offered in two historic colors Sterling Gray and Autumn Red. Benjamin Moore‘s
“WOODLUXE” #OC-151, White is offered as a low-VOC exterior water-borne solid stain
to complement a modern aesthetic.
We currently offer two models to suit a range of pets — from cozy puppy or pussy-cat-
sized Ports to a larger shelter to fit medium-size animals. As our business develops, we
plan to offer a model to shelter larger animals.
You can order your Puppy Port on this website. Choose from 2 different sizes and 3 attractive colors. Your Puppy Port can be picked up locally in Brandon, VT. We also offer delivery within 20 miles of Brandon for a nominal fee of $25. Shipping outside of this area is calculated based on shipping costs to your location. Contact us if you choose this option.
Natural products like our Puppy Ports will show normal wear and weathering over time
when kept outside. A regular light cleaning with warm soapy water will remove surface
dirt. More extensive touch-ups can be done by re-coating certain areas as needed with
the same finish color stain – either Vermont Natural Coatings Exterior Penetrating Stain
or Benjamin Moore Woodluxe water-borne solid stain to match the original finish of your
Puppy Port. Visit the websites noted in Question 1 above for more detailed information.
Puppy Ports kept inside your home can be maintained like other interior furniture and
will hold up well with simple dusting or light cleaning. And remember, that Puppy Ports
are made of solid, natural softwood (Spruce) and are not recommended for pets who
are wood-chewing animals.
